The Agile Company: Power to Transform
Guest speaker: Robert Van de Walle
>>
The Agile seminar with guest speaker Robert Van de Walle got a very favourable reception! Here we give a summary of what we learnt at the enjoyable talk given by Robert Van de Walle:
Robert took us down “The Road to Mastery” with his winning smile and a twinkle in the eye. It’s all about the continuous process of growing and persevering which starts out with setting a clear (and achievable) goal. Growth requires concentration, and that can only happen if you have a clear goal in your sights (realise your dreams, aim to do whatever makes you happy). Robert shared various key aspects with us to help keep us fostering this growth process:
-
Taking and making time is crucial; so is focus.
-
In order to keep growing, you need to step outside your comfort zone: it requires being willing to take risks and, above all, having ‘appetite/enthusiasm’.
-
Surround yourself with a team and a coach: you’re stronger when you’re together!
-
Raise ‘your hands in the air’ regularly. “We’re on our way!”
-
Everything hinges on keeping yourself well balanced (emotionally, physically, financially, socially, materially, etc.).
“The Road to Mastery” is a quest for excellence and calls for passion, getting the bit between the teeth. That’s Robert’s message to us in his inspirational book ‘The fighter’s mind’, about the fanatical enthusiasm of Dan Gable (the world-famous wrestler) for “Harder work yields better results”.
Robert set out his credo in two catch-phrases: “Leave your ego with your shoes” and “If it has to be, it starts with me” (leading by example: “Be tough on yourself, but gentle with others”). Finally, we asked Robert what motivates him. His answer: “To live, to love and to make the difference”.
So now it’s up to us to ring the changes for a company culture where everyone feels lucky, and where personal growth, sound teamwork and inspiring leadership lead to excellence!
Thank you Robert for your message, which inspires us through your modest attitude, and captivates us because you share your rare experiences with us, straight from your heart.
